The Office of Student Involvement (OSI) exists to provide students with leadership development and extracurricular opportunities. In addition to overseeing the registration and management of over 380 RSOs, OSI staff members work closely with the Campus Activities Board, Fraternity and Sorority Life, Homecoming, Knights of the RoundTable, Late Knights, Multicultural Student Center, Student Government Association, and Volunteer UCF.
OSI, located in Student Union 208, houses student organization mailboxes and cubicles, offices for administrative staff, as well as work space for several of the agencies listed below. The office staff is here to respond to questions and can sere as an important resource for RSOs. The following agencies can also serve as important resources for RSOs. See KoRT and SGA for information on these two agencies.
The Campus Activities Board (CAB) is a student-run programming board that selects and organizes educational and entertainment activities. CAB is comprised of several committees that plan a variety of programs for UCF, including: Cinema, Comedy and Variety, Concerts, Cultural and Fine Arts, Speakers, Special Events, Spectacular Knights, and Rosen Campus Events.
There are several ways that RSOs can get involved with CAB. The events planned by CAB are excellent social and teambuilding opportunities for organizations, and are free to all current UCF students. RSOs that are interested in collaborative programming (which involves sharing ideas, workload, and financial responsibility) with CAB are encouraged to fill out an application for collaborative programming, which is available in OSI. In addition, CAB committees can be great resources for connections to the entertainment world. They are able to suggest event ideas, performers, and speakers, and can provide guidance on event planning.
To learn more about CAB, please visit the web page or email
cab@mail.ucf.edu. CAB is located in SU 208.
Fraternities and sororities are self-governing units that allow their members to develop skills within each chapter. Active participation in the Greek community provides an opportunity for students to acquire skills (e.g., Leadership, Brotherhood or Sisterhood, Social Responsibility, and Community Service) that will lead to future success in members’ personal lives and professional careers. RSOs can connect to the Greek community by co-programming with the Greek Councils or with individual Greek Chapters. The Greek community has a number of philanthropic and community service opportunities in which students are welcome to participate.
For more information about getting involved with the Greek community, please visit www.greeklife.sdes.ucf.edu. Fraternity & Sorority Life is located in SU 154.
Homecoming, held from October 27th through November 4th, is a great opportunity for RSOs to participate in competitions or social activities, all of which serve as great publicity and recruitment tools for the organizations. Free social opportunities include the Concert, Movie Knight, Carnival, Skit Knight, Comedy Knight, Spirit Splash, Homecoming Parade, and the football game.
RSOs can be as involved in Homecoming events as they choose. Events open to RSO participation include: Spirit Banner Contest, Spirit Splash Fountain Guard Contest, Chalk on the Walk, Skit Knight, Aluminum Can and Box Top Collection, and the Homecoming Parade. In addition, RSOs may nominate a candidate for Homecoming King and Queen.
For more information on events, deadlines, and rules, visit the web page or email ucfhc@mail.ucf.edu. The Homecoming office is located in SU 208.
Late Knights is a monthly event that provides free food, prizes, and entertainment to UCF students. Typically, the events are held on a Friday or Saturday night in the Student Union from 9pm to 2am.
RSOs can benefit from Late Knights by either setting up a table to promote and recruit members, or by sponsoring or co-programming an activity at a monthly event. Each event consistently attracts over 1000 students, so participating in Late Knights can be a great recruitment and promotional tool for the group.
For more information on event dates and the student organization fair held at Late Knights, visit www.ucflateknights.com or email ucflk@mail.ucf.edu. The Late Knights office is located in SU 208.
The purpose of the Multicultural Student Center (MSC) is to provide programming and outreach to encourage greater cultural awareness at UCF. The MSC creates events throughout the year and provides advanced support to various cultural councils. The MSC strives to develop and implement an environment characterized by openness, compassion, and enthusiasm. Its goal is to inspire others to learn, acknowledge and respect differences. The MSC can suggest ideas for events or performers, provide support and advice when working with diverse populations, and assist organizations with their promotional efforts related to multicultural events.
For more information, see the web page or email msc@mail.ucf.edu. The MSC is located in SU 153.
Volunteer UCF (VUCF) is dedicated to promoting community service and education on various social issues. VUCF links interested student groups with the community organizations that best fit their interests and talents. VUCF works with over 200 community agencies, so it has the ability to connect student organizations with service projects that are related to their purpose.
VUCF can benefit RSOs in many ways. An organization can attend pre-planned VUCF events, which build unity and promote teambuilding within the group. If the organization desires a more involved approach, it can partner with VUCF to create service projects for UCF students. One benefit of attending VUCF events is that it can track community service hours for the organization based on reports submitted by each organizational member. The RSO that accumulates the most community service hours within a school year is recognized at the annual VUCF Awards Banquet. Organizations that require members to accumulate a certain number of participation points to maintain membership should consider allowing VUCF events to count for a set number of points.
For more information, see www.vucf.getinvolveducf.com or email vucf@mail.ucf.edu. VUCF is located in SU 208.
